The new Season 6 teaser for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is making one thing clear – “Agent Coulson is dead.”
Those words appear in the somber teaser, silencing the question that’s been on fans’ minds since Season 5 concluded: Did Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) survive his walk into the sunset?
But, while the S.H.I.E.L.D. director is now six feet under, fans can take a small comfort in knowing that he wasn’t alone when he died, as Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) reveals that she “was there until the very end.”
In the teaser, we see that the new S.H.I.E.L.D. director is Mack (Henry Simmons), who says to May “I’m glad you got a little time together.”
“More than we thought we would,” she replies solemnly.
After this, we have a taster of Mack’s new role in the agency, as well as the search for frozen Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Daisy (Chloe Bennett) kicking ass.
But, this isn’t all, as the final moments of the teaser show a scruffy Gregg turning towards the camera as (in voiceover) we hear him say he’s never heard of S.H.I.E.L.D. So what does is mean? Is Coulson actually still alive?
We’ll have to wait and find out when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns later this year, although a premiere date has not been announced.
