Ever wanted to know what Alfred Pennyworth’s life was like before he was the Wayne family butler? No? Apparently, someone over at EPIX has, and it’s being made into a series.

The cable network has picked up a 10-episode prequel series that explores Alfred Pennyworth’s origin story. The drama comes from Gotham showrunner, Bruno Heller, and director and executive producer, Danny Cannon. However, it won’t be a spinoff of the FOX series, and Gotham’s Alfred, Sean Pertwee won’t be involved.

Pennyworth will tell a new story about the Dark Knight’s butler, but it will still be based on the characters created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. Set in 1960s London, the series will explore Alfred’s origin as “a former British SAS soldier who forms a security company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne, Bruce’s billionaire father” according to a press release from EPIX.

Production on Pennyworth will begin later this year, as EPIX are eyeing a 2019 debut.
