Season 2 of superhero spoof The Tick has officially been ordered by Amazon.
Created by cartoonist Ben Edlund when he was just 18, The Tick was originally a mascot for the comicbook store where he purchased his comics, however the character became popular, and a comic series was soon realised. Centring around the blue-suited hero and his sidekick, Arthur, The Tick joined Amazon in 2016, with Peter Serafinowicz in the titular role.
The first half of Season 1 began on August 25th, 2017.
Amazon greenlit the second season yesterday, with Ben Edlund returning, with Serafinowicz and co-star Griffin Newman reprising their roles. Season 2 will consist of 10 episodes premiering exclusively on Amazon Prime in 2019, and head of Amazon scripted series, Sharon Yugado, is excited to continue the series:
“Ben has created a resounding hit while Peter and Griffin have brought Tick and Arthur to indelible life. We can’t wait to bring fans more of the Tick universe soon.”
Edlund, as creator and executive producer, was just as full of praise, excited to continue to work with the cast and broaden the world that they have already begun to create:
“I am so excited that Amazon wants to continue this wildly fruitful collaboration and that this amazing cast gets to stay together, and that we get to build this mythos further, wider, deeper, and taller. We got a good ball of mud spinning with the right tilt of axis, I’m very happy we have this opportunity to keep peopling it.”
For those wanting to catch up on the first half of The Tick Season 1, it’s currently available on Amazon Prime.
Season 1 returns on February 23rd.
