It’s been a while since Ryan Murphy announced that he was planning to do a crossover season of American Horror Story which would see the union of Season 1’s Murder House and Season 3’s Coven, but he has now revealed that the forthcoming eighth season will officially be the crossover.
The co-creator of the series announced the news via Twitter, where he revealed that this September’s Season 8 would see the highly-anticipated Murder House/Coven crossover.
What’s more, is we already know what the basic plot of the season will be, as Murphy discussed the plans with Entertainment Weekly last year. American Horror Story Season 8 will see a character from Murder House attending Miss Robichaux Academy from Coven, the New Orleans academy for witches that is run by Sarah Paulson’s Cordelia Foxx.
Here’s what Murphy told EW:
“It’s a character from season 1 that will be thrust into the world that you are left with at the end of Coven, which is sort of like the male/female/witch academy. And then all of those characters will intertwine, which is confusing because some of them are from seasons 1 and 3. Like, Sarah Paulson will probably be playing 18 characters.”
However, there are some other details floating around about Season 8 that we can’t dismiss just because the crossover has been revealed. It was announced that the season would be set in the future – “18 months from today” – and would see Paulson with creepy dental appliances. It will also see the return of Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Billy Eichner, Cheyenne Jackson, Adina Porter, and Leslie Grossman, as well as the arrival of newcomers Joan Collins and Anjelica Houston.
This could all be ditched in favour of the crossover, but you never know. Plus, it could be very confusing for viewers if Paulson and Peters are playing both their Murder House and Coven characters as well as new ones – then again, it wouldn’t be the weirdest thing to happen on the show.
American Horror Story returns this September.
