Isaac Asimov’s seminal sci-fi trilogy Foundation has been given a 10-episode straight-to-series order from Apple.
Foundation, coming from Skydance Television, David S. Goyer and Josh Friedman, chronicles the thousand-year saga of The Foundation – a band of exiles who discover the only way to save the Galactic Empire from destruction is to defy it.
Last June, Deadline revealed Skydance had made a deal with the Asimov estate, and tapped Goyer and Friedman to work on a TV adaptation of the sprawling sci-fi series which gave inspiration to Star Wars and many other sci-fi projects. Originally published as a set of short stories in 1942 in Astounding Magazine, Foundation is a intricate saga of humans scattered on planets across the galaxy, all living under the rule of a Galactic Empire.
Goyer and Friedman will serve as executive producers and showrunner, and Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Mercy Ross, and Asimov’s daughter, Robyn Asimov will also act as executive producers.
