DC’s Titans is continuing to fill out their impressive cast, as the TV series has now recruited Drop Dead Diva’s April Bowlby as superhero Elasti-Girl.
It was recently revealed that The Doom Patrol would be joining the Titans, finally bringing the favourite group of misfits to life – and following this announcement, DC has been moving quickly to fill out the ranks.
While it isn’t clear how big of a role The Doom Patrol will have in the story of Robin (Brenton Thwaites) and his group of young heroes, however it won’t be far into the series before they are introduced as writer Geoff Johns has confirmed that they will debut in Episode 5, which will share the team’s name. With the team coming in at this point, it’s clear that the Titans will barely be established themselves before the new heroes arrive.
When the team arrive, we will see Bruno Bichir in the role as The Chief, leader of the Doom Patrol. Now, with this new casting announcement, it’s clear that he won’t be the only classic team member to join the show.
Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that April Bowlby has now been cast as Rita Farr, a.k.a. Elasti-Girl, whose exposure to volcanic gas has given her the ability to change her size, to stretch and grow. ‘The Doom Patrol’ will mark the character’s first appearance, with Bowlby possibly having a recurring role in the episodes that follow.
Elasti-Girl first appeared in 1963’s My Greatest Adventure #80, which saw her turn from being an aspiring actress to a super-powered hero. She then went on to use her abilities in the original Doom Patrol line-up, alongside The Chief. With both of these characters having been confirmed, it’s probably safe to say that other classic team members will be cast soon.
Titans will premiere on DC’s streaming service later this year.
