The Terminator press event with James Cameron got us a few new details about the franchise’s sixth instalment. But, apparently the director let slip a little something about Avatar 2.
Borys Kit, a writer for The Hollywood Reporter who attended the event, tweeted that James Cameron told the audience that he is going to begin filming on Avatar 2 next Monday – September 25th.

So, it seems that the Avatar sequels are finally getting off the ground – and with four more of these films on the way, we’re certainly going to have a lot to get through. Reports are also saying that they plan to film the four movies back to back, which means that the stars are going to be incredibly busy – especially Zoe Saldana, who will be working almost non-stop for the foreseeable future, since she also has Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 on the horizon (as well as any other Marvel movies that she’s attached to).
And while there are few who actually wanted these Avatar sequels (for many, one was quite enough) we’re definitely getting them, as potential release dates have already been announced:
- Avatar 2 – December 18th, 2020
- Avatar 3 – December 17th, 2021
- Avatar 4 – December 20th, 2024
- Avatar 5 – December 19th, 2025
So, prepare to endure many an Avatar-heavy Christmas season.
