At this week’s CineEurope, Kevin Feige has teased that Avengers 4 will be about Earth’s Mightiest Heroes learning how to become “a true team.”
Though fans are still waiting to find out what the official title of next year’s Avengers will be, the man behind the MCU, Kevin Feige, has at least given us some hints about what the fourth film in the franchise will be exploring, as it seems that the remaining heroes and their new recruits will have to work together if they are to have any chance of defeating Thanos (Josh Brolin) once and for all.
As the ultimate culmination of the MCU’s first decade, many were shocked to see that Avengers 4 has far fewer key players than this year’s star-studded Infinity War, but there’s a certain touching nostalgia to taking the Avengers back to where they began, with Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) at the core of the story.
With the fate of the universe in the hands of the founding heroes and their newest recruits, it will become more important than ever for them to work cohesively as a team. As well as this, the heroes will probably be involved in a more complex story, with less people sharing the spotlight – let’s not forget that Tony and Steve still haven’t spoken since the events of Civil War, so there will likely be some thick ice to break there.
While Marvel Studios’ presentation at this week’s CineEurope didn’t include a special first look at the film, or the revelation of the title, Feige still shared some information about what fans can expect. According to the Marvel Studios boss, next year’s conclusion of Phase 3 will see the remaining MCU heroes learn what it means to truly be in a team. According to Nikita Byrkin on Twitter, Feige said “We are going to see out characters make an effort to become a true team with one another.”
It’s important to note that in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it has been more than six years since the OG Avengers fought alongside each other during the Battle of New York – the last time they fought without the aid of super-powerful super-people like Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany). This also lines up with the possible time travel (which is basically confirmed at this point) that sees the heroes go back to the Battle of New York. Every character has changed through the years, and now they will have to learn who they are now to be able to work together as a unit.
Avengers 4 is set for release on April 26th in the UK, and May 3rd in the US.
