Since they first came into the MCU with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it’s safe to say that the Russo Brothers have been game-changers for the franchise.
While Infinity War is currently in post-production, the Russos are already back on the horse, shooting Avengers 4. However, a new report has indicated that this could be their final movie in the MCU.
Actor Josh Brolin, who will be playing the archvillain Thanos in both the third and fourth Avengers movies, was out recently promoting his new film Only the Brave – and it seems that Brolin may have inadvertently revealed that the Russo Brothers plan to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers 4:
“…I think that they’re in a position very openly and raw-ly where they’re like, ‘We would never do this again. This is a one-time deal. To put this many successful actors together is such a pain in the ass, but it’s been worth it. We’re doing two movies. One back to back, and this is it for us. Then we’ll go off in another direction,’ but this is a very, very, very ambitious project that I think is going to pay off in a big way.”
If that is the plan, then fans should definitely give the directors our collective blessing to move on to other, non-Marvel projects – after all, they have been the MCU’s longest-serving directors, whose box office success has only been matched by James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
Avengers: Infinity War is set for release on May 4th, 2018, while Avengers 4 is scheduled for May 3rd, 2019.
