The Obamas may not be in the White House anymore, but they are still keeping busy, and their newest venture sees them partner with streaming giant, Netflix.

Netflix plans for Barack and Michelle Obama to produce original content for the streaming service, which will include everything from scripted (and unscripted) series and movies to docuseries and documentaries. They will be providing original content under their newly-founded Higher Ground Productions, and adding the power couple to its growing list of producers, Netflix will likely be taken more seriously in the industry that has constantly questioned their place within it.

The announcement of the partnership came from Netflix itself, which issued a press release with quotes from the former President Obama about what the deal means to him:

“One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience. That’s why Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix – we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”

The former First Lady added her own statement about her belief that Netflix is the perfect partner for the projects that she and her husband have in mind:

“Barack and I have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire us, to make us think differently about the world around us, and to help us open our minds and hearts to others. Netflix’s unparalleled service is a natural fit for the kinds of stories we want to share, and we look forward to starting this exciting new partnership.”

Let’s hope there aren’t any bitter tweets about this.
