The latest rumours about Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey film are saying that Batgirl won’t be appearing – but the woman under the cowl, Barbara Gordon just might. This is the latest hint we have that say the film will play out the original comics’ story, set after Barbara was crippled by the Joker.
At the moment, it’s looking like Birds of Prey may be the next DC movie to be released following Wonder Woman 1984. Margot Robbie confirmed reports that filming is set to begin in January of next year, and that the low-budget, R-rated film will have a very different tone and style to the rest of the DCEU.
While little is currently known about the film, there are persistent rumours that Huntress and Black Canary will be part of the team.
Reports initially implied that Batgirl would also be in the film, journalist Umberto Gonzalez has taken to Twitter to insist that she won’t be after all – but while he says that Batgirl won’t appear, he does imply that Barbara Gordon will be. This is a pretty sizable hint that Barbara will appear in her other super-identity, Oracle, the wheelchair-bound hacker who serves as friend and ally to the other members of the Birds of Prey.
They didn't say that on the record, rather Justin tweeted. Profound difference. Was decided recently no Batgirl. Attention to detail, I didn't say Barbara Gordon, I said Batgirl. 😉

While the Warner Bros. Hall H panel at SDCC is set to focus on Shazam! and Aquaman, with the recent influx of Birds of Prey rumours, we may well see some kind of announcement on that front too.
More on Birds of Prey when we have it.
