The beta trailer for Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has given fans a look at the game’s highly-anticipated Blackout battle royale mode.

Taking the franchise in a new direction, this fourth game will be the first to introduce an increasingly popular trend of battle royale to the Call of Duty franchise. Many fans were upset to learn that Black Ops 4 would not include the traditional single-player story, but developers at Treyarch are clearly hoping that this action-packed battle royale will make up for the loss.

Appearing at the end of this trailer, fans are treated to a 13-second glimpse of what they can expect from Blackout – namely the fan-favourite Nuketown map, as well as World at War’s Verruckt map and some zombies. While it’s yet to be confirmed, the appearance of the zombies suggests that they could well feature in Blackout, as an added threat.

Elsewhere, newcomer Bruno Delacroix appears alongside some familiar Black Ops faces, to assure fans that this battle royale will indeed hark back to the franchise’s past. The trailer also showcases this instalment’s vehicular gameplay, ending with one team fleeing on ATVs as the opposition fires from above.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is set for release on October 12th.
