The MCU continues to add A-listers to its ranks, as Marvel has now confirmed the addition of Jude Law as the male lead in 2019’s Captain Marvel.
The news was first reported as a negotiation by Deadline, however it has now been confirmed that Jude Law will appear in Captain Marvel as Dr. Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Captain Mar-Vell, a Kree. Law joins lead Brie Larson and Ben Mendelsohn, who has been confirmed as playing villain Half Nelson.
Dr. Walter Lawson will be a mentor to Larson’s Carol Danvers as she discovers her superhero powers. However, if you’re familiar with the comicbook lore, then you will know that the Walter Lawson who identifies as Mar-Vell is not the original Dr. Lawson. It is an identity assumed by the heroic Captain Mar-Vell, who hails from the humanoid race of warriors, the Kree.
The Kree are one of the most powerful alien species in the Marvel Universe, conquering most of the known galaxy in the name of the Kree Empire. Which means that things are no doubt going to get intergalactic in the forthcoming movie.
Captain Marvel is set for release on March 8th, 2019.
