The first footage of Brie Larson in Captain Marvel has been shown in Barcelona at the CineEurope trade show, and it appears that the heroine will likely become the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Studios is set to kick off their 2019 slate with their first female-led franchise in the form of Oscar-winner Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, an Air Force pilot who becomes an intergalactic hero. Though her arrival will come only a short time before Avengers 4, the film will actually explore her origin story during the ‘90s.

Understandably, fans are desperate for a glimpse of Larson in character, as so far we have only seen the official release of one photograph, and while several set photos have shown Carol Danvers’ green Kree costume, we’re yet to get a look at the official version of the heroine’s costume.

Larson is still filming Captain Marvel, but she’s already wrapped her part on Avengers 4, and now a select group have been treated to footage of both her upcoming appearances – and she’s made quite the impression.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the first footage of Captain Marvel and Avengers 4 was revealed during Disney’s presentation at CineEurope yesterday. Kevin Feige introduced the footage to the crowd, and in doing so, he revealed just how big of a role Carol is going to have in the cinematic universe moving forward. According to Twitter user Nikita Byrkin, he claimed that “Captain Marvel is about to take the lead in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

This tease from Feige is a big deal, as he has already stated that she will be the most powerful person the MCU has ever seen, and while it isn’t shocking that the studio has long-term plans for her, saying she will be the “face” of the MCU is on another level. For the last decade, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. have shared that mantle, and saying that Larson will become Marvel’s new focus doesn’t say much about the survival rates of Captain America and Iron Man in Avengers 4.

Captain Marvel will be released on March 8th, 2019.
