Fans were heartbroken when Chris Evans appeared to say goodbye to the role of Captain America after filming Avengers 4, but the film’s co-director Joe Russo has said that Evans is “not done” playing the Star Spangled Man With A Plan.
Russo told USA Today, “I think it was more emotional for him than it was for us, mostly cause he’s not done yet. I don’t want to explain what I mean, but audiences will soon understand.”
There’s an incredible amount of secrecy surrounding the fourth Avengers film, with the title not even being released yet, so it’s possible that the film may find a way to keep Steve Rogers in the MCU for another Avengers film – something which Russo says Marvel may be considering once the 21st Century Fox characters are available to Marvel Studios.
Russo explained, “It could be a little time, with the integration of Fox and all the Fox characters. I haven’t talked to [Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige] directly about it, so I don’t know what his plans are. But my guess would be they’re gonna integrate some of the other characters and take their time doing that.”
In another interview, with both Russo brothers, the duo confessed that they will be “taking a break from superhero movies” after Avengers 4 is released – which is understandable, given the amount of time and effort that has gone into the last two Avengers films. However, when asked what could see them return to Marvel Studios, Joe Russo gave a quick response:
“Not until they’re ready to make Secret Wars.”
