If all these choices work out, The Batman could be amazing.
It’s been a week jam-packed with rumours of the actors currently in talks for high-profile roles in Matt Reeves’ The Batman – so who might Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, and Matthew McConaughey be playing in this Dark Knight outing?
According to Deadline, Irish-born Fantastic Beasts and Dumbo actor Colin Farrell is currently in talks for the role of The Penguin. Farrell has played the role of a comic book villain before, having taken the role of Bullseye opposite Ben Affleck’s Daredevil, but playing this particular villain would be very different. Many fans associate the role of Oswald Cobblepot with Danny DeVito’s portrayal in 1992’s Batman Returns, though with Reeves taking a more noir detective approach to Batman, we may see a completely different version of The Penguin.
Motion-capture genius and acclaimed actor/director Andy Serkis is apparently in the running to play Bruce Wayne’s butler/low-key father figure, Alfred Pennyworth. According to The Wrap, an individual with knowledge of the project revealed that Serkis is in talks to reteam with Apes director Reeves in this crucial role in The Batman. After all, there are few so close to both Bruce Wayne and Batman than his trusty helper, Alfred.
Finally, Oscar-winner Matthew McConaughey is reportedly being set up for the role of Gotham City District Attorney Harvey Dent a.k.a. the villainous Two-Face in The Batman. According to reports, Dent will feature in the film before going on to become Two-Face in a planned sequel. However, the Daily Mail have also stated that McConaughey isn’t the only actor in the frame for the role, as John David Washington is also apparently being considered.
Should these actors be cast, they will join Robert Pattinson as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman/Selina Kyle, Paul Dano as The Riddler/Edward Nashton, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon.
The Batman is currently set for release on June 25th, 2021.
