Fans of Charmed have something to be happy about (potentially) as The CW has reportedly agreed to a pilot order for the reboot.

A Charmed reboot has been in the works for years, though before now, it hasn’t gained enough traction to make it on to TV. Originally, the reboot was intended to take place during the ‘70s, with plans to incorporate the original cast – Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano, and Rose McGowan – were in the works. However, writers Jessica O’Toole, Amy Rardin, and Jennie Urman (of Jane the Virgin fame) ultimately decided against this angle, and instead planned to sever ties with the original series – which led to the network passing on the reboot.

TVLine has now reported that The CW has given the green light to the Charmed reboot, offering a pilot to the same writing team, with director Brad Silberling and Ben Silverman as the showrunners. The new (reworked) reboot is set to take place in present-day, and is promised to be “fierce, funny, and feminist.”

As with the original, the plot will follow three sisters discovering that they are, in fact, witches. And so together they will navigate their recently acquired abilities, while also “tearing down the patriarchy.”

There’s no news yet as to whether the original cast will be involved in any way, or whether the story will be connected to the Halliwell universe or sever ties completely, however we’ll bring you more news on Charmed as we have it.
