The CW have hired Vampire Diaries series creator Julie Plec to produce and direct the pilot episode of the forthcoming Roswell reboot.
The original series centred around the daughter of undocumented immigrants, who returns to her childhood home of Roswell, New Mexico, and discovers that her teenage crush, who is now a police officer, has been revealed to be an alien whose hidden extra-terrestrial powers from the public his entire life.
As their romance blooms, the two investigate his origins and uncover a massive government conspiracy, as well as more aliens who are suspected to be hiding on Earth. Even though there’s no premiere date or cast, the network is continuing to push forward with the Roswell pilot behind the scenes.
Deadline has reported that Julie Plec will be directing the pilot episode of the show, her first time as director on a pilot. Should the reboot be ordered to series, Plec will stay on board as executive producer under her production banner, My So-Called Company. The series will also reunite Plec with her Originals co-writer, Carina Adly MacKenzie, who’s tapped to write and executive produce the reboot.
