Ever wondered what Scooby-Doo’s Velma and Daphne were like before they joined the Mystery Gang? Didn’t think so. Regardless, you’ll find out, when Daphne & Velma, a new live-action prequel is released.

Entertainment Weekly released the film’s trailer:

Starring Sarah Jeffery and Sarah Gilman in the titular roles, the film is produced by Ashley and Jennifer Tisdale’s Blondie Girl Productions, alongside Blue Ribbon Content. Focusing on Ridge Valley High, a centre of innovation and learning for the nation’s brightest minds, including Daphne (Jeffery) and Velma (Gilman), we follow the friends as they investigate a number of questionable disappearances, as some of their fellow students appear to become “zombiefied.”

Let’s be honest, we’re not expecting an Oscar-worthy film here, but I think everyone was hoping for a little more than what looks like an average cosplay of the classic characters in a straight-to-DVD story. Hopefully, the film will surprise everyone on its release, and give another layer to these much-loved characters.

Daphne & Velma is set for release on digital, Blu-ray and DVD on May 22nd.
