The Multiverse of Madness will have to find a new helmsman

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been making hit after hit for more than a decade now, they occasionally find themselves at odds with directors, and Scott Derrickson is the latest to leave following “creative differences” with the studio.

Derrickson had been set to direct the Doctor Strange sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but announced on Twitter this week that he is parting ways with Marvel on the film.

This announcement confirms the speculation that’s been going around for a while that said the director wasn’t as happy with development on the sequel as he had been with the first film.

Derrickson brought a unique psychedelic style to Doctor Strange that worked wonderfully with the strange and mystical content, so it’s a shame we won’t be able to see what his vision for the second film would have been, however he did confirm that he will stay on as Executive Producer.

Multiverse of Madness is currently slated for May 7th, 2021, but given the loss of director it’s likely that this date may be pushed back to accommodate the delay. More when we have it.
