Experiment 626 is heading to the big screen once more, as Disney are developing a live-action Lilo & Stitch film.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, in which they explain that Mike Van Waes is writing the new film’s script, with Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich producing.
The 2002 animation centred around a young Hawaiian girl named Lilo who befriends a fallen blue alien with anger issues, who she names Stitch. It wasn’t a huge box office success, earning only $146 million domestically, however Lilo & Stitch did spawn several direct-to-video sequels as well as TV series.
Lilo & Stitch is another in a long line of Disney live-action remakes, which already includes Cinderella, Pete’s Dragon, The Jungle Book, and Beauty and the Beast. Next year brings with it the release of Tim Burton’s Dumbo, Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin, and Jon Favreau’s The Lion King, to be followed in 2020 by Mulan.
