Early reactions from an Aquaman test screening point to the film being a welcome relief after the disappointment of Justice League.
Putting a yearlong wait between the superhero team up and James Wan’s Aquaman is likely a good move for the studio, as it will let the dust settle. Unlike the previous productions coming from DC and Warner Bros., Aquaman has been able to continue on without much worry, and for many fans, Jason Momoa’s portrayal of the character was a highlight of Justice League, so at least they are building on strong foundations.
However, while some footage of the film has been shown at comic cons already, we’re still waiting on anything being released to the general public.
Warner Bros. recently held an early screening of Aquaman on their studio lot, and while those in attendance are not allowed to public talk about the film and their thoughts, third parties can reveal the details. Batman-News on Twitter shared some of the early reactions which they have received:
So far two different sources told me they loved #Aquaman! There’s tons of action but it’s a very emotional movie as well.

While the details are sparse, it’s a step in the right direction, as the studio are in desperate need of another hit film in their DCEU line-up, so these early reactions are certainly good news. The knowledge of the film being action-heavy does fall in line with what some of the actors involved have already described, and the emotional aspect of the story will help Aquaman to carve out its own place in the DC roster.
It’s worth keeping in mind, however, that this screening is still a long way off what we’ll be seeing when the film hits theatres in December, and the feedback given will help the studio know what needs to be changed – and what doesn’t.
