The Monitor has arrived in the Arrowverse, as Entertainment Weekly has revealed the first official look at LaMonica Garrett’s multiversal observer, Mar-Novu.
Making his debut in this year’s crossover event, Elseworlds, you can check out how Garrett will look below – and he seems to be holding a big foreboding book:
The Designated Survivor actor’s character is being described as “an extraterrestrial being of infinite power” and according to Grant Gustin, Garrett is quite the imposing presence.
The Flash star told EW, “LaMonica was ridiculous, like seeing him in his suit, he’s just a monster. He’s like an absolute unit. He doesn’t have to do a lot with his performance. He’s so intimidating with just these subtleties, so that’s dope.”
In the DC Comics universe, the Monitor has played a role in several of DC’s continuity-changing events. The character was created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez for Crisis on Infinite Earths, the Monitor is charged with watching over the multiverse, and protecting it from his dark counterpart – imaginatively named the “Anti-Monitor”.
There’s no news on how The Monitor will be a part of Elseworlds, but a change in continuity seems to be the theme of this crossover, with the latest poster showing Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin in each other’s super costumes – so perhaps Garrett’s character will appear to right a wrong of some kind in the multiverse.
Elseworlds kicks off with The Flash on December 9th, continues with Arrow on December 10th, and concludes with Supergirl on December 11th.
