Peter Jackson and the team behind The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit have released the trailer for their new sci-fi adventure.
The trailer for Peter Jackson’s latest project sees the culmination of a decade-worth of work on the director’s part. Since 2008, Jackson has been working on developing Philip Reeves’ book series into a film, and finally we can see something of the fruits of his labour.
Mortal Engines tells of a world thousands of years in the future, where cities have transformed into mobile Predator Cities that move around on wheels and consume smaller cities for parts. Here, Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar) appears in the London Predator City on a mission to kill a man named Valentine (Hugo Weaving) as vengeance for murdering her mother. But, when worker Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan) intervenes, the two are set on a path towards changing the course of their world and stopping a massive nuclear weapon from destroying cities.
Jackson penned the script for the film with his Tolkien franchise collaborators, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, with Jackson’s longtime storyboard artist, Christian Rivers, making his feature film directorial debut on the project.
Mortal Engines is set to debut on December 14th.
