The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel has finally revealed the film’s official title, and given us our first look at the cast – both new cast members and returning ones – giving us the first glance at Jude Law’s young Dumbledore.

The sequel’s will officially be titled, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

After the successful launch of the Harry Potter spinoff in 2016, Warner Bros. is starting to build another franchise off the back of lore of best-selling author J.K. Rowling. Introducing a whole world of new characters, the ongoing narrative pre-dates that of the Potter series, and follows protagonist Newt Scamander, a magizoologist and employee of the Ministry of Magic.

With the first film laying the ground of this multi-movie storyline, which will feature some of the mythos’ familiar characters, such as Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald, the series is a successful saga in the making.

The specifics of the sequel’s narrative are being kept under wraps, however, it has been confirmed that it will explore the beginnings of Dumbledore and Grindelwald’s rivalry. How Newt will factor into this remains to be seen, but it will be interesting to see how the story connects to the Harry Potter narrative, and whether it will have an impact on how fans perceive some of their favourite characters.

And, with a year to go until the Fantastic Beasts sequel hits theatres, Warner Bros. has revealed the film’s official title and cast photo, featuring all of the story’s main players, including Johnny Depp’s Grindelwald and Jude Law’s Dumbledore.

And, a synopsis for The Crimes of Grindelwald has also been released:

“As he promised he would, Grindelwald has made a dramatic escape and has been gathering more followers to his cause — elevating wizards above all non-magical beings. The only one who might be able to stop him is the wizard he once called his dearest friend, Albus Dumbledore. But Dumbledore will need help from the wizard who had thwarted Grindelwald once before, his former student Newt Scamander. The adventure reunites Newt with Tina (Katherine Waterston), Queenie (Alison Sudol) and Jacob (Dan Fogler), but his mission will also test their loyalties as they face new perils in an increasingly dangerous and divided wizarding world.”

The photo also sees Claudia Kim as an unknown wizarding circus worker, Ezra Miller as Credence Barebone, Callum Turner as Thesus Scamander, Zoe Kravitz as Leta Lestrange.
