Syfy’s Superman prequel series Krypton is set to hit screens soon, and a new promotional video has revealed what fans can expect from villain, Brainiac.
As with Gotham, this series will explore an iconic setting before the birth of a hero, but unlike the Batman prequel, Krypton will take place a generation before Kal-El was even born. Instead, the story will explore the story of Seg-El, Kal’s grandfather and the choice that is brought to him by a strange visitor.
The visitor is strange by nature, and Strange by name, as it is Adam Strange who comes to Seg to tell him that he must ensure the birth of his grandson, and in doing so, must also allow his home planet, and its inhabitants to die. Of course, the decision brings a certain amount of weight to the show, and raises the stakes by presenting us with the possibility that Kal-El may never be born at all.
However, while Seg must ensure the timeline is unaltered, he will, as this video shows, have to contend with iconic Superman villain, Brainiac.
As we can see from the footage, Krypton is aiming to keep the green-skinned android as close to his appearance in the comics as possible. In fact, executive producers David Goyer and Geoff Johns have stated that the goal is to finally bring the character to life in a way which television has never been able to do before. Past incarnations have altered the character for various reasons, but it’s clear that Goyer and Johns are very eager to deliver a version that is a lot more comic-accurate.
Johns has also noted that he developed the character to appear as more of an ancient evil, cold and detached, as the machine he appears to be. His voice also brings a certain level of consistency to the Warner Bros. products, as the voice used by Blake Ritson in this series sounds a lot like Jeffrey Combs’ Brainiac in Injustice 2.
Krypton premieres on Syfy on March 21st.
