Netflix has released the first images for their upcoming series The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
The series, based on the comic book of the same name, was originally intended to be a Riverdale spinoff, until showrunner Robert Aguirre-Sacasa and his team agreed that both shows need the chance to stand on their own before a crossover can be considered.
A far cry from the sitcom version, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, that aired in the ‘90s, this new series will stay close to its source material, drawing inspiration from the classic supernatural horror shows and film that came before it.
The newly released images focus on the titular character, played by Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka, and her aunts Hilda and Zelda, played by Mirando Otto and Lucy Davis, respectively.
The first of the images (above) sees Shipka wearing Sabrina’s trademark red outfit, making a trip to the woods near her hometown – a place which is central to the events that occur to Sabrina throughout the series.
The second picture shows Sabrina kneeling before the villainous Father Blackwood (Richard Coyle), with her aunts and The Weird Sisters (Abigail Cowan, Tati Gabrielle, and Adeline Rudolph) behind her in what appears to be an initiation of some sorts.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will be available to stream on Netflix from October 26th.
