While Avengers: Infinity War continues to thrive at the box office, fans are looking for news on the still untitled fourth instalment in the Avengers franchise. Now we have our first taste of what’s to come next year.
Thanks to License Global – who were also the first publication to release the synopsis for Avengers: Infinity War – we now know the first official synopsis for the highly-anticipated Avengers 4:
“A culmination of 22 interconnected films the fourth instalment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it.”
While this doesn’t point to all the characters surviving (especially the OG Avengers) fans have begun to theorise that Avengers 4 will potentially see the formation of the Illuminati. Not the favourite group of conspiracy fans, but a small group of prominent Marvel Comics heroes who are tasked with secretly maintaining order within the universe.
In the comics, the core members are Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Professor X, Black Bolt, Namor, and Mr. Fantastic, however the MCU may choose to assemble a different group – perhaps built around Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Wong (Benedict Wong) and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo).
Whether the Illuminati make an appearance or not, we can expect Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) to have a large role in the upcoming film, that already sounds as though it is going to be far more emotional than Infinity War.
Avengers 4 is set for release on April 26th, 2019 in the UK, and May 3rd, 2019 in the US.
