Lana Wachowski will write and direct
It’s official – a new Matrix film is happening at Warner Bros. with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss set to reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity, respectively. Co-creator Lana Wachowski will also returning to write and direct the new project.
Warner Bros. will co-produce with the franchise’s original co-producer, Village Roadshow, and Wachowski will produce alongside Grant Hill. She will also co-write with Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell.
Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group made the announcement and said, “We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana. Lana is a true visionary—a singular and original creative filmmaker—and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe.”
It has been twenty years since the first Matrix film was released and the franchise has remained a hit with audiences and critics alike, with the trilogy (created with Lilly Wachowski directing and writing) earning more than $1.6 billion at the global box office – and each featuring in the Top 10 domestic hits in the year of their release.
