In a confusing development, it has been revealed that Fox is pushing the release dates for some of its most highly-anticipated features, including X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
Deadline has reported that the exploration of Jean Grey’s Dark Phoenix persona, which was set for release this year, is now being pushed back to February 14th, 2019.
Strangely, the original release date for the X-Men prequel – November 2nd – has been assigned to the drama-filled Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, which was originally going to be released on Christmas this year.
To continue the X-Men’s stroke of bad luck, New Mutants, Fox’s mutant horror has been pushed back a whole six months, with its release date going from February 22nd to August 2nd, 2019. Having already been pushed back once (as is was originally going to hit theatres in April this year) in order to complete reshoots that would make the film scarier, as well as including an entirely new character, it seems that the cast and crew need some more time to polish the final product.
What’s unclear at this point, is why this shuffle has occurred. Perhaps Fox is feeling to pressure after their merger with Disney.
