Loki is filling out its cast
The Morning Show and Belle star Gugu Mbatha-Raw has reportedly been cast alongside Tom Hiddleston in the Disney+ series, Loki, following the MCU’s trickster demi-god.
As with every Marvel project and every cast member added to them, we have no idea who or what Mbatha-Raw’s role will be in the series, but Deadline (who first reported the news) has heard that it’s a prominent role, described as the series’ female lead.
Mbatha-Raw joins Tom Hiddleston, who returns to his fan-favourite role of Loki, and other reported cast members Owen Wilson, and Sophia Di Martino in the Marvel Studios series.
Taking place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the show will follow the God of Mischief in his inevitable adventures that came from once again stealing the Tesseract. From the glimpse of Loki that we had in a Disney+ teaser for their upcoming Marvel series, we know that at some point he will be taken into the custody of the TVA (Time Variance Agency), who are responsible for monitoring the multiverse and are able to cut off timelines that are deemed to be too troublesome.
It’s been said that the series will tie-in to the May 2021 sequel, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, so it’s perhaps this organisation that will link the two projects.
As with all the Marvel shows for Disney+, Loki is being executive produced by the studio’s chief, and MCU architect Kevin Feige. The series’ writer Michael Waldron, and its director, Kate Herron, will also take on the role of executive producer.
Filming is currently underway in Atlanta for a scheduled Spring 2021 debut on Disney+.
