“That’s not something that’s necessarily happening”
Thanks to the MCU, Hawkeye has gone from a cult favourite to one of Marvel’s biggest heroes, and fans were excited to hear that a Hawkeye series was heading to Disney+, even more so when there were rumours of Hailee Steinfeld taking on the role of his successor Kate Bishop – however, according to Steinfeld herself, the rumours aren’t exactly true.
During the press tour for her new AppleTV series Dickinson, Steinfeld revealed to RadioTimes that her role with Hawkeye isn’t set in stone.
“That’s not something that’s necessarily happening,” she said, “We’re going to wait and find out, I guess.”
Obviously, this news is a little disappointing for Hawkeye fans, as many were excited at the idea of Steinfeld bring Kate, one of the key members of the Young Avengers, to life in the MCU. To hear she may not be taking part in Hawkeye at all is disheartening, however the actress did say in the same interview that following her work on Dickinson, she is more prepared to work in television:
“I think generally speaking, this sort of experience has prepared me for working in this sort of space. So whatever opportunity might present itself in this space, I do think I will be able to tackle it, now that I’ve had some experience under my belt.”
However, according to a piece by Variety, it may be the actress’ role in Dickinson that means she cannot accept the offer made by Disney+. There are rumours of a non-compete clause, which would mean that because Steinfeld is working with AppleTV, she cannot work for Disney+, a competing streaming service, despite Variety also saying that the actresses representatives received an offer for her to play Kate with no other actresses being approached.
So, right now it’s anyone’s guess as to whether we’ll be seeing Hailee Steinfeld in the MCU, but we’ll bring you more news on Disney+’s Hawkeye series when we have it.
