Neil Marshall’s Hellboy reboot has found some new members of the Osiris Club in the form of Brian Gleeson, Sophie Okonedo and Alistair Petrie.
The project has drawn concerns from fans of Guillermo del Toro’s original franchise, and despite Hellboy creator Mike Mignola’s indication that the intention was to tie the reboot into del Toro’s movies, this reboot will be going in an entirely different direction, with Stranger Things’ David Harbour starring.
Marshall’s Hellboy has now been given the subtitle ‘Rise of the Blood Queen’, Harbour’s character will face off against Mila Jovovich as villain, the Blood Queen. Additional story information has also been released, which paints a broader picture of the range of characters we can expect to see alongside Hellboy, from Abe Sapien to Merlin.
Deadline has reported that Brian Gleeson will be playing Merlin, the medieval wizard and member of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defence (B.R.P.D.); Sophie Okonedo will be playing seer, Lady Hatton, and Alistair Petrie will take on the role of Lord Adam Glaren.
The reboot promises to be a darker, more gruesome horror film than del Toro’s films, and the planned R-rating has fans excited at this iteration’s more grizzly take on the story.
