Superman actor Henry Cavill is making the move to TV as leading man Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy saga The Witcher.

An epic tale of fate and family, The Witcher follows Geralt, a solitary monster hunter as he struggles to find his place in a world where people are often worse than the monsters he stalks. However, when destiny guides him to a princess with a dangerous secret and a powerful sorceress, the trio must find their way through the volatile Continent together.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s The Defenders) will serve as writer, showrunner and executive producer. She said of Cavill (who is a huge fan of Sapkowski’s series himself) on Twitter:

Cavill has been something of a fan favourite for the role, but a recent artwork from Bosslogic seemed to renew fan interest – and you can see why, as the edit of the actor seems to capture the character perfectly:

Sapkowski will serve as creative consultant on the series, so hopefully this series will stay true to the writer’s story collections – as well as the major video game franchise they have been adapted into.

The Witcher does not currently have a release date. More when we have it.
