The first official poster for How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World shows Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and his dragon Toothless, meeting a female Night Fury.
It’s been a long road for How to Train Your Dragon 3, which was originally slated for release in 2016, but following many release date delays, has been pushed to 2019. However, it seems that the third film, directed once again by Dean DeBlois, will be well worth the wait.
Last month, DreamWorks revealed the film’s official title, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, along with a synopsis:
“As Hiccup fulfills his dream of creating a peaceful dragon utopia, Toothless’ discovery of an untamed, elusive mate draws the Night Fury away. When danger mounts at home and Hiccup’s reign as village chief is tested, both dragon and rider must make impossible decisions to save their kind.”
The newly-released poster gives us our first look at Toothless’ “untamed, elusive mate” – a sparkling white Night Fury – as well as a small glimpse at the hidden world that the title eludes to. And based on the stalactites overhead, it seems the hidden world may well be underground.
Oscar-winner F. Murray Abraham has been cast as the movie’s villain, Grimmel, who has been described as having a “gentlemanly calm.” Presumably, Grimmel is directly involved in the “darkest threat” that the synopsis describes.
The Hidden World is also expected to bring Hiccup’s story to a close, as DeBlois has said that there won’t be a fourth film.
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is set for release on February 1st in the UK, and March 1st in the US.
