Captain America (Chris Evans) doesn’t just have one new shield in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War it seems – he has two, both revealed in the Super Bowl TV spot this weekend.

The superhero team-up comes from directors Joe and Anthony Russo, and takes place after 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, in which Cap threw down his shield before disappearing to Wakanda, with best friend Bucky (Sebastian Stan).

Dropping the shield effectively ended him being Captain America, once again becoming Steve Rogers – and only Steve Rogers. However, this doesn’t mean that he is no longer a superhero. Finding himself living in the country which was the origin of his original shield, it’s no surprise that Steve is supplied with his new shields from T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) himself.

Whilst we got a quick glimpse at Cap’s new shield earlier this month in an early look at a new Avengers toy collection, this weekend’s Super Bowl spot showcased the shield in all its glory. But that’s just one shield, isn’t it? Oh no, there are definitely two. And what’s more, we’ve already seen them.

Left – November’s ‘Infinity War’ trailer, Right – February’s Super Bowl spot

The same scene of Cap and friends charging into battle is at the end of both this teaser and November’s official trailer, and in this scene, we see Cap with his shields out on both gauntlets – except no one seemed to spot them back in November. However, there’s a reason for this, as in the original trailer, his shields were compressed, and not out as they are in this spot.

Given that Steve Rogers is no longer the Captain America he was and will quite likely take up the moniker of Nomad, it makes sense that these shields are darker, as is his suit, which can be more easily concealed to allow him to take on more clandestine undercover operations.

Avengers: Infinity War will be released on May 4th.
