Star Trek launched is newest spacecraft at the San Diego Comic Con this week with a teaser trailer bound to awaken the senses of new fans and perhaps win over some diehards of the original series. U.S.S. Discovery (NCC-1031) has been given the green light to “sail” into far away regions in the final frontier.

The series producer, Brian Fuller, unveiled the details of this new series and the new logo to a standing room only crowd in Hall H. This marks the franchises return to network television since Enterprise.

The design of the ship seems to appear to predate the enterprise, but more details will be made available to us over the coming days and weeks as anticipation builds for this new chapter in the cultural folklore. After the bottle of Champaign has been smashed on its hull to send it on it’s first maiden voyage, the life that awaits the crew will surprise, enchant and bewilder the audience. It’s hard to believe that this sci-fi institution has been with us for 50 years now. The timing is just right for bringing in something engaging, fun, curious, complex and captivating to unite what has been happening with the alternate reality of the timeline.

This is a great time to be a fan of Star Trek. It’s legacy lives on in our hearts in minds. Many of us grew up with this franchise and rode the waves hoping that our journey would never end. And now, we can safely say that we will continue to boldly go where no one has gone before.

Star Trek Discovery is coming in January 2017.
