Spiritual trees. AMP Suits. Alien dragons. Thanators. Cue the blue people ’cause James Cameron is taking us back to the Na’vi and Pandora for 4 Avatar sequels. That’s right. 4. Not three. Not 2. Sadly, 4. Yay.

Cameron’s 2009 epic fantasy tale saw audiences flock to cinemas worldwide and rake in over $2 billion to make it the highest grossing movie of all time, surpassing his previous incredible directorial accomplishment Titanic.

Let’s not forget that it was a fun and very entertaining sci-fi/fantasy romp – the first time you watched it. While Cameron and his talented crews created new technology and production techniques to bring us ground-breaking special effects it did lack a strong enough story to keep us coming back for more. Yet, it looks like he’s got a lot more in store for us this time. “We began to bump up against the limitations for our art form”, he said of how the intended 3 sequels would have limiting to tell the whole story.

“I’ve been working the last couple of years with a team of four top screenwriters,” he said, “to design the world of ‘Avatar’ going forward: The characters, the creatures, the environment, the new cultures.”
