Oscar-winner Jared Leto is adding another comicbook role to his repertoire, as he has signed on to star in Mobius, Sony’s latest Spider-Man spinoff.
Life director Daniel Espinosa will helm the project, based on a script from Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, the duo behind Netflix’s Lost in Space.
The film is based on the antihero Morbius the Living Vampire a.k.a. Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist who suffered from a rare blood disease, and suffered disastrous consequences when he attempted to cure himself. Instead of curing his disease, he develops a form of vampirism – you know, thirst for blood, fangs, super strength, all that jazz – and fights Spider-Man.
Over the years he became something of a hero in his own right, headlining his own comic series.
Created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane, Morbius first appeared in 1971’s Amazing Spider-Man #101, the first issue written without Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee.
