The next chapter
Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the next instalment in the original series of Ghostbusters films.
A continuation of the iconic sci-fi franchise, which began with the original film in 1984, Ghostbusters: Afterlife revolves around a single mum (Carrie Coon) and her two children (Finn Wolfhard & Mckenna Grace) who arrive in a small town and begin to find their connection to the original ghostbusters team and the secret legacy that their grandfather left behind.
My money is on their grandfather being Egon Spengler, as Harold Ramis passed away in 2014 and therefore is obviously the only original cast member to be unable to reprise his role – but this would be a wonderful nod to the star and co-writer of the original duology. Either that, or their grandfather is Louis (Rick Moranis) because that would be a curveball.
Most of the original actors from the 1984 film are set to return, and ageless wonder Paul Rudd also stars.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is directed and written by Jason Reitman, son of the original director Ivan Reitman. Gil Kenan is also a writer on the film, and Ivan Reitman produces.
Dan Aykroyd, Gil Kenan, Jason Blumenfeld, and Michael Beugg executive produce.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is slated for release on July 10th, 2020.
