After years of being the overlooked character in the MCU, Jeremy Renner is more than ready for a Hawkeye solo movie.
Renner is set to continue his staple role in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, and with rumours of a possible Ronin transformation on the horizon, Hawkeye has the most potential to reach Marvel’s Phase 4 alive.
While the MCU has the next decade of films planned, the actor is urging Disney and Marvel Studios to move quickly on a Hawkeye solo venture. Speaking with the South China Morning Post, 46-year-old Renner commented on his age in relation to the potential film: “It would be a wonderful thing. Just don’t wait too long! I don’t want to be in my 50s in tights.”
Talks of a Hawkeye spinoff have been going on for years, and perhaps with a new deal that adds hundreds (if not thousands) of characters in the form of the X-Men and Fantastic Four, Renner is worrying that his character will slip further down the MCU’s list of priorities.
Clint Barton is perhaps a character that audiences have had the least amount of time with over the course of the years, and so there’s certainly a lot to explore – however, let’s be realistic – a lot of people won’t be that enamoured with a solo Hawkeye outing, but Hawkeye and Black Widow? Let’s get that done. We still want to know about Budapest.
