Next year’s Avengers 4 is set to be an end of an era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Infinity War co-director Joe Russo promises that fans can expect the as-yet untitled sequel’s finale to be another “big game changer.”
Speaking to Sway’s Universe, Russo explained: “Obviously Thanos is a very formidable villain and to beat Thanos will come at a very high cost. We’re committed to stakes, we believe in stakes, and we like to shake up the Marvel Universe. We had a big game-changer at the end of Winter Soldier, had a big game-changer at the end of Civil War, a big game-changer at the end of Infinity War. Obviously, there will be a big game changer at the end of Avengers 4.”
If there’s one thing that these films have proven, it is that the Russo Brothers can do a shocking finale like no other directors in Marvel’s back catalogue – Captain America: The Winter Soldier saw the end of S.H.I.E.L.D. as we knew it, Captain America: Civil War saw the separation of The Avengers, and in the most shocking turn to-date, Avengers: Infinity War saw Thanos literally destroy half of all life in the universe.
How the Russos plan to one-up that in Avengers 4 remains to be seen, but we can all agree that our emotions probably won’t be able to take it.
