It seems that John Krasinski is returning to direct the sequel to last year’s smash-hit A Quiet Place, as the actor-turned-director posted to Instagram today, confirming his return as well as a 2020 release.
Production on A Quiet Place 2 is rumoured to begin in July, and apparently Emily Blunt has also closed a deal on her return for the sequel. Blunt recently won a Screen Actors Guild award for best supporting actress for her role in the first film.
Unlike many films now, A Quiet Place thrilled audiences with a largely dialogue-less screenplay, where sound was used to amplify the fear factor. The sound editing by Ethan Van der Ryn and Erik Aadahl was so successful that the movie has been nominated in that category at this year’s Oscars, the only Academy Award that the film was nominated for.
The film ended with Blunt’s protagonist, Evelyn Abbott with a rifle in her hand, ready to take down the creatures storming the farm where she and her children were gathered. But, it’s unclear where the sequel will pick up.
A Quiet Place 2 is currently slated for release on May 15th, 2020.
