The cast just keeps getting bigger and better
Another classic DC Comics character has been added to Matt Reeves’ The Batman, as the writer/director revealed on Twitter that The Big Lebowski and Transformers: The Last Knight actor John Turturro has been cast as crime boss Carmine Falcone.
Falcone first appeared in Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One comics as the last of the old mafia families who still held power in Gotham before the costumed criminals and vigilantes arrived. In Batman Begins, which also drew inspiration from the Year One series, the character was played by British actor Tom Wilkinson.
With the large, villainous cast, many have presumed that Reeves is adapting/taking inspiration from The Long Halloween, a story in which the Falcone crime family have a fairly prominent role.
Turturro joins the impressive cast of Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Jayme Lawson as “Bella” and apparently Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin. And perhaps even Matthew McConaughey as Harvey Dent/Two Face.
The Batman is currently slated for release on June 25th, 2021.
