Assassins everywhere

Lionsgate has set Underworld director Len Wiseman to helm Ballerina, a spinoff of the action-packed John Wick franchise.

Ballerina will focus on a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family. Apparently, the only way female assassins are trained is a ballerina first (see Black Widow and Red Sparrow) – it would’ve been nice to see that John Wick had to don some tights before he became the infamous Baba Yaga, just saying.

The film is on a fast track, with a script from Shay Hatten, who wrote the Zack Snyder-directed Army of the Dead, and more importantly for this project, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. It is set to be produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Chad Stahelski, Keanu Reeves, and Kaley Smalley, head of development for Wiseman’s Sketch Films.

The character “Ballerina” appeared in Parabellum, with Unity Phelan credited as player her, but at the moment it’s unclear whether she will be the star of the spinoff.

More on the spinoff when we have it.
