Not The Penguin, as many speculated.
Two-time Oscar nominee Jonah Hill is apparently in early talks to play The Riddler opposite Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
A source revealed to Collider that the actor is being considered for the role of villainous quizzer The Riddler, not The Penguin as many have been speculating, largely due to Hill’s physical appearance.
Reeves, who is directing the comic book film has recently added Westworld’s Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon to the film’s cast, and has made it clear from the start that he has a vision for the film that goes beyond a simple reproduction of the comics.
Since the film was announced, there’s been many who wanted Hill to play the role of Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a. The Penguin, but as Collider put it, that casting seemed “a little too on-the-nose” for Reeves.
Hill doesn’t yet have any kind of deal in place, and most reports are saying that it hasn’t been confirmed which villain he will play – but the report explains that Riddler would likely be the first villain cast, given his prominent role in the script.
The Batman is currently set for release on June 25th, 2021.
