Fresh off Thor: Ragnarok, Karl Urban is adding another notch on to his pop culture belt, as he’s scored a leading role in the new Amazon adaptation of Garth Ennis’ comicbook, The Boys, to be directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.
Urban will play Billy Butcher, who recruits a team of operatives in order to take down corrupt superheroes. He’ll be joined by Jack Quaid as “Hughie,” Erin Moriarty as Starlight, Jessie T. Usher as superhero A-Train, Chace Crawford as “The Deep,” Laz Alonso and many more.
Amazon has described the series as:
“In a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame, The Boys centers on a group of vigilantes known informally as “the boys,” who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than blue collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty.”
Goldberg and Rogen will direct the eight-episode adaptation of Darick Robertson and Ennis’ comic, to be converted into a script (and showrun) by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke.
Production is set to begin this spring, for a 2019 premiere.
