Disney has released the first teaser trailer for Guy Ritchie’s live-action Aladdin remake, and apart from some visually stunning tracking shots, it doesn’t show much at all.
This live-action version has a lot to live up to, as the animated Aladdin was the highest-grossing film of 1992, as well as becoming the very first animated film to reach a half-billion gross. And it remained the highest-grossing animation until it was surpassed by The Lion King, even earning two Academy Awards, and a Song of the Year Grammy for its soundtrack.
It’s safe to say that no one is expecting this film to be anywhere near as good as the original Disney film, especially after the announcement that Will Smith would be taking over Robin Williams’ iconic Genie role.
Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin also stars Mena Massoud as the titular character, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, as well as Billy Magnussen and Nasim Pedrad.
Smith revealed the poster for the film earlier in the week, and it unsurprisingly focuses on the lamp:
Aladdin is set for release on May 24th, 2019.
