“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light”.
For the many of you that are Harry Potter fans, this will be a familiar phrase. Spoken gently, comfortingly, by one Albus Dumbledore, it seems more crucial than ever that in the midst of a tragic 2016, one finds light.
Illustrator Jim Lee (of Uncanny X-Men glory and fame), is shining a little bit of that light himself this month as he pens Love is Love, a brand new Harry Potter one-shot comic for the Orlando Pulse Shooting relief. The IDW/DC Comics produced piece was depicted in The New York Times, quoting another beautiful line from the magical headmaster (who J.K.Rowling clarified was written as gay).
Rowling herself has given the comic her approval (for the first time since the characters have begun being used in comic books).
With the release of Fantastic Beasts, one might feel that the Potter market is getting over saturated, but this beautiful comic is a reminder of the central message of Rowling’s classics; one of love, no matter the kind. The comic will be available on December 28th. All of the proceeds of the comic’s sales with be contributed to Equality Florida for the victims and families of the Orlando shooting.
