He will play the Holland’s mentor
We all know that Sony’s Uncharted film adaptation has been in the works for a long time – so long in fact that Mark Wahlberg, who was once attached to play the leading role of Nathan Drake, is now joining the project as the mentor to Drake, who will be played by Spider-Man actor Tom Holland.
Travis Knight, director of Bumblebee, is set to helm the film which is currently set to follow the younger years of treasure hunter Nathan Drake, who journeys around the world is search of answers to historical mysteries.
Wahlberg will play Victor “Sully” Sullivan, another treasure seeker and businessman who serves as something of a mentor to Drake. He was on board to play Nathan Drake when David O. Russell was first set to direct an adaptation, and according to Variety, with Sony turning the film into an origin story, Wahlberg wanted to return to the film “in some capacity.”
The current credited writers on the project are Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man, Men In Black International), as well as Rafe Judkins (Chuck, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) though Uncharted has been through many iterations through the years with actors, writers and directors coming and going through the project’s various states of studio limbo.
